HARI RAYA HARI YANG MULIA ..October 9, 2007
this is my favourite hari raya song of all times. i like the catchy tunes. I love how they potrays the happiness of celebrating the big day after a whole month of fasting. i like the kampung-like fiesta on hari raya they describe. the kuih raya, the traditional delicacies, the duit raya giving tradition. it is so Hari Raya.

Hai duit raya lupa nak di beri
this year, i’m not going to take a long break for the big day (longer break menas more food, so, no ..) but i’ll be taking early break, because i promise my mom and my sisters to buat kuih raya. i think it’s been years since we all last make kuih raya. in the old days, we used to prepare tarts (all kinds of tarts), almond london, corn flakes cookies and chocolate chips (chocolate chips is a must every year. i think my mum make the best ‘dough’ for the chocolate chips. rase dier tiap2 tahun same je, lemak berkrim hehe). and like the previous years, we are going back to prepare the tapai pulut.
being a kelantanese family (even though io was born in pahang, me and my sisters and brothers inherit all the kelantanese traits), we will prepare tapai for pagi raya. it’s a must. between our family and my aunts’ and my uncles’ family, everybody prepare tapai. and later we compare who makes the sweetest tapai, what type of ragi they used, why it’s not as sweet as they should be etc etc. i love it. it’s addictive. my mother (as always) prepare the ramuan. me my and siblings are tasked to bungkus only. we are traditional people you know. my father would go into the woods, or the kebub or ladang to find daun getah. kami bungkus tapai dengan daud getah tau, bukan masuk tupperware kecik2 tu!
and another thing about raya that i like is the buat ketupat. my mother doesn’t know how to prepare or bungkus ketupat. neither do i. only our grandmother can prepare it. (i’m talking about ketupat pulut, not ketupat nasik. we used nasi himpit only nowadayas. even if we want to prepare ketupat, my father is the only one who can successfully turn the daun palas into a ketupat sarung. the rest of us, well, daun palas turn into daud palas yang lunyai). back to ketupat pulut. my grandmother will prepare the pulut etc, and we will help her to bungkus. me as always (i’m so undomestically equipped!) only managed halfway because instead of turning into ketupat-shaped object, i turn it into a triangle. if u come to my grandmother’s house for raya and see a triangle shaped ketupat, that’s my product. (i’m so hopeless!)
oooo … i love the few last days before raya. but on raya day, i don’t usually be the happiest one around. the joy fade away real quick. we are grwon up, we don’t go from house to house already to collect duit raya. we stay at home, and basuh pinggan.
